Multi-faceted bassist, composer, and educator Eric Hitt seeks to elevate the music each time he performs. Hitt brings originality, versatility, and a unifying groove to the groups he performs with, lending him to be an in demand musician.
With his unique musical voice on the upright and electric bass, he has had the fortunate opportunity to collaborate with musicians ranging from local legends to world-renowned artists including Ryan Kisor, Jeff Hamilton, John Beasley, and more. Currently located in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, Hitt has performed and recorded across the United States at places including Capitol Records, the Blue Room, and the Meyerson Symphony Center.
His performing has gained increasing attention as he was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2021 International Society of Bassists Jazz Competition and Outstanding Performance in the 44th annual DownBeat Student Music Awards.
Hitt enjoys an active career as an educator, currently serving as a faculty member at Tarleton State University, Collin College, and Weatherford College. He also contributes to the University of North Texas Jazz Division as a Teaching Fellow while he nears completion of his DMA.
Hitt earned his Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance at The University of Nebraska—Lincoln and his Master of Music in Jazz Studies at The University of North Texas. Each institution provided the opportunity to study with two of the leading double bass educators: Dr. Hans Sturm and Prof. Lynn Seaton, respectively.
